Ash Wednesday Services
February 14, 2018
12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Calvary will be holding two Ash Wednesday services on February 14, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. In addition, to help us prepare for worship each Sunday in Lent, a bell will chime to indicate that our worship of God is beginning. It will be rung at 10:00 a.m. to remind us that we need to become silent and prepare for worship.
Admittedly, Calvary is one of the friendliest churches anywhere. We love to visit and that’s a good thing, but please join us in this Lenten practice to prepare our hearts, minds and souls for the worship of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Lent is a time of self-examination, repentance, self-denial, conversion and growth. It lasts for forty days, excluding Sundays, and begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on the Saturday before Easter. At its heart Lent is a journey into wholeness — a participation in God’s mission of redemption. The journey of Lent for believers follows the journey of Christ to the cross, the tomb, and resurrection. It is a corporate practice that joins believers to Christ’s way of humility and dependence on God. In many ways Lent is an invitation to a form of dying and rising. Practiced well, Lent nurtures a greater knowledge and love of Christ and a more realistic understanding of our own frailties, finitude, and need of help from God.
