Volunteers Needed for Hurricane Harvey Relief
Dear Members and Friends of Calvary United Methodist Church,
Thank you for sending thoughts and prayers for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
I believe strongly in the power for prayer. Please continue to pray for those who are being impacted by the storm, for relief workers, disaster coordinators, and the Early Response Teams deployed to the area to assist. This recovery will take years. As you pray, expect God to open your heart to those for whom you are praying. For some, the calling will be to continue in prayer. Others will be called to financial or material generosity. Some will be called to serve in shelters and on mission trips. Perhaps you will be called to all these things and more.
In addition to praying, here are some specific ways you can help:
- Make a donation by cash, check, or online to CUMC Paris and mark it “Hurricane Relief.” All donated funds will go to relief and recovery for Hurricane Harvey. We received more than $1,250 in our relief offering Sunday. There will also be opportunities to give during worship each Sunday in September.
- Serve as a shelter volunteer. Paris is very likely to host evacuees in the coming days and weeks. City Square Paris will be taking the lead on the shelter operation at First UMC. Calvary is on the list in case of overflow.
- Collect and donate items for *UMCOR Cleaning Kits, which will be distributed to those in need as the cleanup efforts begin. We will assemble these kits after worship on September 24, 2017. (*see specific list in bulletins)
Your loving concern for our neighbors is one of the ways the power of God is revealed. Your prayers, your gifts, and your service are needed and appreciated.
Grace and peace,
